I found this great article in the latest edition of pregnancy and birth magazine. So how many layers do you need to cover your bub with of a night? How warm should the room temperature be? It is important not to overheat your bub of a night as this increases the risks of SIDS.
Sharon Donaldson from Pregnancy and Birth Magazine has a few pointers to share with us:
- You don’t need to leave the heating on all night or monitor bub’s room temperature with a thermometer, but ensure that she is dressed properly appropriately.
- A good way to check your baby’s temperature is to feel her chest, which should be warm (don’t worry is baby’s hands and feet are cool, this is normal)
- Babies control their temperature through the face, so it’s important not to cover it whilst she sleeps. So no beanies or hats, which may slip down over the face, no quilts, pillows, bumpers or soft toys in the cot.
- Swaddle your newborn in a cotton blanket, then layer natural fiber blankets so she si warm, but not too hot.
- Never use electric blankets, heated wheat bags or hot water bottles in babies cots.
Hope these tips help give you a few pointers for your bub with Winter.
